Patterned Imprinted Concrete

Patterned Imprinted Concrete (PIC) is an innovative skilled technique. You can use colours and patterns on freshly poured concrete to make patios, driveways, or paths. This gives concrete the appearance of natural materials like stone, slate, and timber. This avoids the high prices associated with natural products.

Minimal Maintenance

Patterned concrete offers a unique product with minimal maintenance. It performs far better than alternative products such as block pavers, flagstones, tarmac or flagstones. There are many issues that can be fixed by having a dolomite foundation and four inches of fibre reinforced cement. Alternative products can solve these problems, including sinking, weeds, and moss. Wood decked patios are more susceptible to block paving, wood decay and pest control.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?

Simply put, pattern concrete (also known by stamped concrete) involves pouring concrete over a subbase, then applying a colour followed by a hardener. This is different from traditional concreting that used blocks to create your finish.

The pattern is applied after the concrete has drained. There are many prints you can choose from. The most common include brickwork, textured stones, and ashlar. You can add curb appeal to your home by using patterned concrete, especially for driveway lining.

Good quality print

It is important to assess the quality of the printed concrete. Laying fresh concrete requires extreme care, dedication, and patience. Less consistency in concrete form can result in a poorly constructed concrete floor.

A contractor might use 6-8 rigid matsa and 1 flexible mat to print a set. The driveway’s narrowest section will require six mats. However, the flexible mats can be used to print and access areas that the rigid mats won’t.

Most printing mats will measure 600 x 600 mm. However, there are many options for matt sizes. You just need to decide how large you want them to be and then search the best prices.

Colour Consistency

If you are looking to have imprinted concrete flooring, ensure you consider the following: The main components in patterned concrete include antique release agents and colour surface toughener.

It will cause a poor finish if the colour surface binder isn’t applied correctly or isn’t used enough. This is particularly noticeable in larger commercial jobs such as retail shop flooring.

It will take multiple concrete deliveries to complete large commercial jobs. This will cause slight colour variations in the concrete mixes. The surface hardener matches all the colours together once they are applied. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.

Ensuring Long-Term Durability

The sub-stone base material must be combined with the subgrade (the subgrade, which could be soil, stones, etc.) to ensure that concrete floors will not crack.

The concrete mix used also plays an important role in ensuring that the structural integrity of the concrete floor will last for many years.

This is especially important when you live in areas with high traffic, such as driveways and multi-storey car parkings.

Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking

For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.

Colder conditions will require you to consume 350-380 kgs.

To increase the floor’s durability, resistance to weather and wear, you can add an air entertaining agent.

Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results

A solvent-based acrylic sealant can be applied to patterned concrete once it has dried. This will improve its appearance. Water-based acrylics will cause more problems, so be careful with these for patterned concrete.

You can also apply the sealant once every four years to maintain the appearance and quality of your patterned concrete.

Although it is not mandatory, it will ensure that your driveway or any other area of patterned concrete remains beautiful for many years.
